Uptie Story: Pequod Deckhand
I’m the deckhand of the Pequod.
Every time the planks get loose, I replace them with new, fresh wood.
We don’t get to stay on the shore for long, so I buy as many supplies as I can and get ready for long trips.
The smell of the ocean always sticks no matter how recently cut the planks may be.
Sometimes, the mermaids we kill for oil leave barnacles at the bottom of the ship. They send me to clean them off, and I do so without question. Even if it's...hard/

Heathcliff
The Pequod
Oi...Kiya...

Heathcliff
The Pequod
Captain...needs you...to clean.

Kiya
The Pequod
Again? Show me where.
When was I hired to do maintenance, anyway? Some time ago, I was promised something big.
From a Captain who had such a way with words.
I felt I could do anything if I just put my heart into it.
Is there any ‘heart’ left in me?
After running from home, there wasn’t much else for me to do. Nowhere to go but forward, so she would always say.
Looking into the horizon with the Captain was always fun.
But I don’t like my work, if I’m being honest.

Ishmael
The Pequod Captain
Kiya! You’re doing a splendid job!

Kiya
The Pequod
…Do you mean it, Captain?

Ishmael
The Pequod Captain
‘Course I do. Listen, after this, we’ll stop over somewhere nice. I’ll buy you an extra treat. How about it?

Kiya
The Pequod
Can’t say no to that.

Ishmael
The Pequod Captain
Atta boy! Keep at it, okay?
I don’t like my job.
She has me wrapped around her finger—That would be my own fault.
Let me go forward, and follow what’s left.
Until we all drown in this endless sea.
